Heh. My lovely Lilac Trail piece has been posted in various places over the net since my post on Craftster.
I feel all blush-y.
Kaboodle
StumpleUpon
Bashing In Minds, AKA Serenity Stuff
And a whole bunch of wists.
And I still haven't gotten the darn thing framed. Stupid money issues. I'll be sure to update with a photo when I finally get the moolah for it.

I have been so gorram-flippin' excited about this project since I charted it and started stitching it up! I was working on it for about 2 weeks, I don't remember the exact start date.
I'm not sure what my inspiration was truly. I saw a t-shirt on the net somewhere that had the Oregon Trail artwork and the oh-so-familiar phrase "You have died of dysentery". I remembered how when I played that game I ALWAYS died sometime and NEVER EVER made it to Oregon. Dysentery from paying respects at a gravesite, starvation because I'm a crappy hunter, attempt to the ford the river and loose one of the kids in a flash flood.... I was a sucky Oregon Trail player. I had seen a lot of retro video game cross-stitch pieces over at Craftster lately and that got me to thinking that since it's already pixelated artwork it would be SUPER easy to translate into a cross-stitch pattern. So I decided I wanted to do a cross-stitch Oregon Trail piece but wanted to mix it up a bit beyond the old "dysentery" pandemic. I started thinking about things I might've died from in the "old west" and thanks to the fantabulous-ness of Joss Whedon's vision that is Firefly/Serenity a reaver attack seemed a pretty good possibility for me.
In the TV series and the movie, the only place ever named specifically as having a reaver attack is the planet/town/outpost of Lilac. Hence "Lilac Trail" was born.
I can't wait to have her framed and on my wall. ^_^
And personally, my favorite part, the bloody skeleton lashed to the Reaver ship:
Again, another scene from 'Serenity' was the inspiration for the ship. I knew I wanted it to be a lot larger than the ox and cart so having just the nose peek into the "screenshot" and have it cut off makes it seem a whole lot larger and more imposing. But then I'm still stuck with "how do I make it look like a Reaver ship?" Just like Mal's idea in the movie, let's slap some red paint on it to look like blood and tie a few dead bodies to it... and the Reaver ship was born.
I'm very proud of it. I think I stitched it up wonderfully and the concept is one of the most original and well executed I've had in a long while. I'm very pleased with it and absolutely adore it. ^_^
